Recently, the talk has spread about the self-driving cars “SDC”. In last month, Nissan Company offered its self-driving car at the Detroit Auto Show to emphasize the continuity in the implementation of its plan to launch this type of vehicles in the market by 2020. In the meantime, the Ford Motor company announced the signing of a partnership agreement with a group of researchers in this field from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology “MIT” and Stanford University where this agreement confirms the completion of the company’s efforts in the development of these systems that enable self-driving car to overcome any obstacles on the road. Also, this new agreement proves that Ford Motor Company is very keen to continue its schedule in this field and predicting the future developments that will occur in the field of vehicles and pedestrians, and so on.
Greg Stevens who is the director of the assisting drivers’ department in Ford Motor Company said: “our goal is to build a vehicle that has ‘intuition’ where the driver can use many signals around him to predict what will happen so we aim to work with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Stanford University in order to add this human intuition to the vehicles”. There are many vehicles available in the market with semi-autonomous control which are called “Semi-autonomous vehicles” and these vehicles have brakes with slow speeds with some special technologies and controls to help the driver line-up the car quickly and easily in less than one minute but we are still at the beginning of the technological revolution in this area since most of the vehicles manufacturers and many other specialized companies such as Google company are working in many different and advanced ways in order to reach the same goal and the same future which is “world without drivers”.
All the vehicles manufacturers agree that safety is the most important motive behind this technological revolution where the most important achievement from these plans is reducing the rate of accidents and deaths on the roads in the world. Also, there is another target for making the self-driving cars which represents effectiveness because with the increasing number of cars, we will take a longer time in the car driving to and from work while it will not be that way in the future with the self-driving cars. Also, this type of vehicles would help reduce the spacing between vehicles as well maintaining the speed of vehicles on the road.
