Engineer Mohammed Saleh Badri who is the general director of Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology “Mwasfat” said that the cooperation of “Mwasfat” with “ADNOC” company to regulate the use of natural gas as an alternative fuel for cars in the country resulted in the preparation of legislation for the special requirements of automobiles that run on natural gas in the United Arab Emirates. Also, he mentioned that “ADNOC” company has prepared a special guide shows the procedures and requirements for the process of converting cars to work with natural gas according to the European specifications in addition to the highest and international safety standards in this area.
He noted that “ADNOC” company is not new in the field of natural gas where it worked and cooperated before with government and advisory agencies, it provided the technical support and approvals in all the stages of implementing the project of natural gas networks since it had begun in 2005. Engineer Mohammed Saleh Badri confirmed that “ADNOC” company has transferred about two thousand and 900 vehicles since 2011 till now and “ADNOC” company was one of the key partners of the commission in the development and putting the technical regulations, and standard UAE’s specifications plus the work’s guides of the transferring project for vehicles to work with natural gas in the state.
He noted that the commission continues to follow up the implementation and processing of regulations and specifications for the use of natural gas as an alternative fuel for vehicles to include the Emirate of Sharjah. He pointed out that the authority is trying to coordinate with the electricity and water authority in Sharjah, and Sharjah transport to discuss the necessary procedures for this step in order to expand the scope of transferring project to convert all vehicles in the country to work with natural gas where this project is one of the major projects for the company.
Also, he said that the commission signed a cooperation agreement last January with the “Emirates Gas” which is a subsidiary of the Emirates National Oil Company “ENOC”. This agreement is about implementing the regulations, requirements and standards mentioned in legislation on the use of natural gas as a fuel for the vehicles where “Emirates Gas” has become responsible in the Emirate of Dubai for implementing the project to convert cars in order to work with natural gas as soon as possible.
