Apparently, The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai is scrutinizing a system of the Smart car Rental initiative aimed at offering easy mobility of public transport means. It’s mainly centered on the Dubai Metro as the origin to different final destinations. The initiative has the following objectives that include: increasing the number of people using public transport, reducing on car ownership and finally minimizing carbon emissions to the atmosphere by Dubai cars.
The operational model of the initiative is that a person rents a car for a short period, not exceeding six hours six hours, by using smart application on mobile phones or online. The vehicle is then collected from a public place without involving employees and once the mission is accomplished, the car has to be returned to a specific location nearby the metro stations. This entire process excludes the involvement of employees.
This project can be implemented in three different models where a car can be shared by more than one person. Secondly, a car can be can be collected from one location and delivered to another location or finally, a car can be picked and delivered back to the same original location. The RTA is also planning letting private companies manage the project in the near future.
This project will reduce on the number of new vehicles bought on the Dubai car market since public cars will be availed to individuals when needed. This in return increases the use of public means of transport. A study and survey carried out indicates the initiative being welcome to the public and highly relevant in the shopping and visits during holidays though its will greatly affect the car purchase business since people will resort to public means rather than buying personal cars. The RTA has the main objective of enhancing public transport modes through undertaking projects that would encourage use of public transport as their favorite mobility choice in Dubai.
