Females’ team achieves the title of ‘Taqa’ company’s race for hybrid electric cars

Qatari females’ team which is called “Jernas 114” achieved the first place in the first race of its kind in the region for hybrid electric vehicles which was held in the International Sport Knights Resort in Abu Dhabi. The race was sponsored by the National Abu Dhabi Energy Company “Taqa” and hosted by the University and Research Center of Petroleum with the support of the Emirates Foundation for Youth Development. This event was attended by 120 students divided into 11 teams from different Gulf universities.

The “Jernas 114” team was able to take the championship’s title after cutting 101 laps where it won during these laps with the final race in the championship with the best time of 88.4 seconds in one lap while the “Jernas 214” teamfrom the university of Qatar finished second and achieved 101 laps at the best time of 90.23 seconds in onelap. The third place went to “MCT Oman” team from the college of technology in Nizwa.

Christine Fred, Head of the winner team said: “we are very proud with our achievement in the first race of its kind for hybrid electric vehicles in the region. We have got a great experience from our participation in this race where we had the opportunity to apply what we have learned from theory information and we have worked very hard and learned a lot but the most important thing is the fun we have obtained during the race”.

The race saw a number of officials, including Abdulla Saif Al Nuaimi, consultantof Abu Dhabi water and electricity authority and vicepresident of the directors’ board of “Taqa” company, Fares Alzahery – General Director of Abu Dhabi water and electricity authority, Dr. Saif Al Sayari – CEO of energy solutions department in “Taqa” company, MorshedSaleh Al Rumaithi – Senior vice president of financial and administrationdepartment at the Petroleum Institute. Saif Al Sayaricongratulated all the teams that participated in the “Taqa” company’s race for hybrid electric vehicles in 2014 at the Gulf region especially the winner team.

Sayari said: “The race was a great opportunity for all the students involved and we are very proud that we sponsored the first race for hybrid electric vehicles in Abu Dhabi, and we are looking forward to host more teams next year”.

The teams participating in the race came fromthe Petroleum Institute in Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi University, UAE University, Khalifa University, Masdar Institute, College of Technology in Nizwaat Oman and the Faculty of Technical Studies in Kuwait and Qatar.
