Basing on the foundation of development and traffic improvement, the Department of Transport (DoT) has broken the seal for eleven bus routes, three new services in the east and eight ones in the west in order to upgrade services for commuters in the Eastern and Western Regions.
Mohammed Nasr Al Otaiba, General Manager of the Bus Office at the Department of Transport (Dot), said that these new services and route modifications have been carried out after a comprehensive study conducted by the Department on all existing line services in order to address commuters’ needs of world class, convenient and almost around the clock bus transportation options. With the bus users being the most important segment of this service, the department is committed to make their various needs come on the ground.
Mr Al Otaiba thanked and praised the public for sending out suggestions and comments on how to improve the service.
The routes’ ultimate goal is to increase the geographic area covered by the emirate’s bus service.
For example, In the Eastern Region, service number 375 now links Sweihan camel race track with Al Hayer Mosque and runs every two hours.
Service number 436 runs between Al Saad South and Al Ain Mall every hour.
Number 960 links Tawam Hospital with Al Khrair East, also hourly.
In the Western Region, the 655 links Mezaira’a bus station with Hameem Shabiya Mosque via Shah Plant, while service number 666 runs from Tilal Liwa Hotel to Madinat Zayed Stadium.
Bus number 667 is a Saturday-to-Thursday service connecting Madinat Zayed industrial area, Bin Kanish and Tamm Centre via Madinat Zayed bus station.
The department has more than 575 buses in its fleet, operating 18 hours a day and carrying more than 170,000 passengers. More than 18 million passengers used the buses last year.
