One of the most interesting specimens at the Dubai Motor Show was the unveiling of the Devel Sixteen. You probably haven’t heard of it before, because it’s secretly been in development since 2006. Why? Well, this car has been conceptualized for one simple reason. To break records. That being said, there isn’t a whole lot of facts to preach about it, because, well it’s just a concept (for now?).

Some of the figures that the team have come up with include a 5000 break horse power capability, powered by a quad-turbo V16 engine. Not good enough? The team also claims it will go 0-100kph in 1.8 seconds. Not a lot of people are looking at these numbers with much hope, as there are currently no tyres in the world that will be able to handle this kind of power. Having said that, the car is said to not go in to production for another 16 months, which will give the world some time to come to terms with the needs of this absolute monster of a car. Interestingly, the ‘concept’ or proto type actually runs to some extent. But nobody is sure of what the current specs are, it’s more for show.

If you think you could handle it and wish to buy one, rumour has it that you’ll need to put up one million dollars. Naturally, this is very cheap if the car delivers what it says it can, but that remains to be seen.
Just to put this amazing idea in to perspective, the next powerful car in production would be one brought to you by Volkswagen. The German giants have only just managed to produce a fifth of the horsepower that the Devel Sixteen promises after years of production and a lot of multi-million dollar losses once the Bugatti Veyron went on sale. So, even if the Dubai based company manage to pull this off, they shouldn’t expect to do well on the business side of things. Although they will be making numerous world records, the likes of which nobody has ever even seen or thought about!

As for the exterior look of the car, it looks to sport a sleek, futuristic model that obviously aims to achieve great wind resistance. It includes a spoiler on the back, as well as a very front-orientated passenger seat. The tyres are something that can’t really be commented on. As already discussed, no current tyre in the world is capable of supporting these specs, so you will have to expect something entirely new and record breaking in itself to make sure this project goes live.
Admittedly, chances are that this project will fail, or at least be unable to deliver the kind of power it has in mind. But at least they are trying, right? That’s what this creative industry is all about. Setting the bar high is the only way forward, even if the proposed specs are ridiculously unachievable. If the team does manage to get anywhere near the proposed figures, it’s safe to say the next Motor Show will be very interesting indeed.
