The Road and Transport Authority (RTA) facilitates residents of Dubai with state-of-the-art services and continues to launch innovative initiatives for their well-being. In an exciting new development for number plate enthusiasts, RTA held yet another Open Auction, which was RTA’s 97th Open Auction in Dubai. It was a highly anticipated event as RTA had announced to offer unique and exclusive number plates in the Open Auction.
The 97th Open Auction for car plates by RTA gave the number plate enthusiasts in Dubai an excellent opportunity to grab their much anticipated exclusive car number plate. The bidding process was very closely contested as only 10 number plates were up for auction. What made this auction different from other RTA auctions was the exclusivity of numbers being offered and the new “AA” dual code bearing car plates.
Details of the RTA’s 97th Open Auction for Number Plates
The 97th Open Auction event was held at the Westin Hotel, Al Habtoor City on December 9, 2017. There were ten numbers up for grabs at the auction, which were 10, 12, 50, 100, 333, 786, 1000, 8888, 11111 and 55555. The highlight of the event was the car plates bearing the dual code “AA” for all ten numbers available for auction.
All the number plates available for auction had the new number plate design that RTA recently unveiled to make the number plates easily readable even from a distance. The newly designed number plates comprise of three components that include the word Dubai, number and code. The process of replacing the existing number plates with the newly designed number plates will start from February 2018.

Results of the 97th Open Auction by RTA
The number plates bearing dual code AA attracted the attention of Dubieties as RTA was able to generate a revenue of AED 12.3 million from its last number plate auction of the year. The AA10 number plate was the most expensive pick of the evening that went for AED 3.12 million. The number plate AA12 was sold for AED 2.72 million while the only two other number plates that could break the million barrier were AA50 and AA11111, which were sold for AED 1.84 million and AED 1.21 million respectively.
The AA100 was sold at the auction for AED 910,000 making it another expensive pick of the evening. Other plates including AA333, AA55555, AA1000, AA8888 and AA786 were sold for AED 700,000, AED 670,000, AED 630,000, AED 500,000 and AED 450,000 respectively.
It proved to be a highly successful event for RTA and gained significant public attention. The number plates sold at the 97th auction will be the only 10 number plates with dual code AA in Dubai for next 12 months, which adds to the exclusivity of these plates.

Official Statement about the 97th Auction by RTA
Before the start of the event, the Director of Vehicle Licensing at RTA Licensing Agency, Sultan Al Marzooki said that the auction will be different from previous auctions as this is an exclusive event that will only have a selected number plates on offer, which only a lucky few will be able to successfully bid for. He added that an important privilege, which the bidders will enjoy at this number plate auction is that the numbers with successful bids will be removed from display in RTA auctions until the end of 2018.
It certainly proved to be an amazing event as exclusive dual code number plates with a new design were up for auction. Ahmad Hashem Behroozian, the CEO of the Licensing Agency at The Road and Transport Authority in Dubai, said that RTA will ensure the exclusivity of the number plates sold in the 97th auction and these number plates will remain the only number plates in Dubai bearing the dual code “AA” for next 12 months.

Future Plans of RTA about High-value Car Number Plates
Ahmad Hashem Behroozian also revealed some of the future plans of RTA and stated that different options have been under consideration as RTA plans to continue offering next generation number plates to Dubieties who remain on the lookout for distinguished number plates.
He added that RTA will offer number plates with double letter code in future and while there was a huge stock of single code numbers available, RTA will focus on offering only the high-value numbers to the number plate enthusiasts in Dubai.
