A lot of car accidents happen in weather conditions where there is a fog and the costs of these accidents incurred by the people involved and the society in general are very expensive where it is known that the fog reduces visibility and this is known by many of the drivers but they nonetheless drive their cars more quickly than necessary in these hard conditions.
What is fog?
Each of the fog and mist consists of tiny water droplets suspended in air and the difference between the fog and mist is the density where the density of the fog is more than the density of the mist. Therefore, the fog contains drops of water more than mist and the visibility must be less than 200 meters before the case is classified as fog. If the driver could not see beyond the 1,000 meters on the road, this air’s condition is called fog and the driving experts say: “the driving in thick fog condition is similar to driving blindfolded and this condition is the most dangerous case in the world according to many official statistics”.
Safety guidelines for driving in fog:
1) Reduce the speed of your car before entering the blurry spot and notice your speed counter all the time because the fog gives an illusion to the driver that he/she is driving with low speeds where the speed is not low.
2) Turn on the fog lights in your car if your car is equipped with this option because the fog lights are able to penetrate the mist.
3) Turn on the front windshields and the condensation remover in order to remove the moisture from the glass.
4) Use the headlights for the near light either day or night and drive your car by using the near lights because the long light reflects the fog and creates a white barrier.
5) Do not use the long lights because they reflect the fog and obstruct the vision.
6) Use the right edge of the road or counts on the road’s markings.
7) Be careful from the slow-moving cars and parked cars where you will not see them in this condition.
8) Do not change the route or exceed other cars except in the case of absolute necessity.
9) Make sure that you can stop within the distance you see through it.
10) If you had to get out of the road, you have to use the signal and try to stop away as much as possible from the road and after you get out the road, turn on the waiting lights immediately.
