The details of the updates, which are now being revealed suggest that the facelifted Mustang will be faster and meaner than ever before.

Redesigning an Icon
It is never easy to alter an iconic car, but with time, some changes become absolutely crucial to keep the car current. The facelifted Mustang boasts of the design excellence that engineers at Ford have achieved through five decades of Mustang’s evolution. The design update in the facelifted Mustang has improved the aerodynamics of the vehicle considerably to make it a true sports car of the modern age in every sense. The exterior of the vehicle has become sleeker and leaner while the interior has been updated with advanced technologies for added pleasure and convenience of the passengers.
Exterior
Mustang’s redesigned fascia and fenders are now much lower than the previous model, making it more aerodynamic and sportier. The LED headlights have become slimmer and Ford has introduced new indicators with a stylish design in the facelifted Mustang. The front grille boasts of the iconic tri-bar pony badge, while the front bumper is adorned with a cluster of thin fog lamps on both sides that adds to the overall exterior beauty.
At the back, the facelifted Mustang features a new rear spoiler and C-shaped taillights positioned along a black stretching that has the “GT” emblem in the centre. There is also a new black diffuser that is placed below the rear bumper to accommodate the four exhaust pipes with ease. The facelifted Mustang will be available in both coupe and convertible body styles.
Interior
The interior of Ford Mustang fuses form with function in a delightful way to deliver innovation, luxury and convenience. The facelifted Mustang boasts a new Carbon Sport Interior Package that redefines luxury in a sports coupe’s interior and adds to the driving experience of the vehicle.
The Carbon Fiber Package has introduced following new features to the upgraded Mustang:
- Carbon-fiber Instrument Panel
- Carbon-fiber Shift Knob
- Alcantara Door Inserts
- Ebony leather-trimmed seats with Alcantara inserts
The dashboard remains much the same with an optional all-digital display that is fitted with a highly customizable 12-inch LCD instrument cluster. The display offers three viewing modes, Normal, Sport and Track mode, which show information about current speed, gear-shifts and RPMs while the driver can shift between analogue and digital display based on preference and viewing mode selected. There is also an option of heated steering wheel, which adds to the comfort of the driver especially when it’s cold outside.
There is another optional MyMode function in the facelifted Ford Mustang that allows more freedom and control to the driver. With this mode, the driver can save the favourite driving setups and take advantage of the semi-autonomous driver assists (whenever needed) which has been introduced for the first time in the Mustang.
Mustang Gets More Power
The highlight of the updated powertrain features in the facelifted Mustang is the new 10-speed automatic transmission that replaces the old 6-speed transmission, making the gear-changes responsive, quicker and smoother.
The 6th generation Mustang GT will be powered by the same 5.0-litre Coyote V8 engine that the previous model had, but with dual direct fuel injection, which has increased the outputs of the engine. The new engine will pump out 25hp more than the old engine, taking the output to 460hp. The torque has also been increased in the new model generating 570Nm of torque, 27Nm more than the 2017 model.
The EcoBoost trim level also gets more muscle under the hood with the old 2.3-litre 4-cylinder engine also getting the new 10-speed automatic transmission. The power remains the same at 310hp, but the torque has been increased from 434Nm to 474Nm. For extra power in the EcoBoost model, Ford has introduced a new Transient Overboost Function that increases outputs with every gear change.
The option of 6-speed manual transmission will also be available on all trim levels.
Facelifted Mustang will be a Good Neighbour
While the race-car sound of Mustang is one of its most iconic and popular features, it still can be intimidating for some people, especially for your neighbours who can hear the sound clear and loud when you start the engine of Mustang. In order to make Mustang a good neighbour, Ford has introduced an amazing new quad-pipe exhaust system that features a “Quiet Start Setting,” which lowers the sound levels to as low as 70 decibels. This system quietens the Mustang for as long as you want and you can switch back to the normal driving mode anytime. The driver can select this setting from the controllers in the steering wheel spokes.
Software Update
All the hardware changes have made the Mustang more powerful but the upgrades don’t end there. The software of the vehicle has also been updated and the 2018 Ford Mustang GT will be able to use all its power in a more effective way with the new Drag Strip mode. This mode will eliminate torque drop during gear shifts to set the car for flawless straight-line performance, enabling it to accelerate from 0-60mph in less than four seconds and five seconds for normal and EcoBoost trim respectively.
Tyres Upgrade
Along with all the power and design upgrades, the tyres of facelifted Mustang have also been upgraded for improved road grip and superior performance. The 2018 facelifted Mustang is equipped with a set of custom compounded Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres that ensure excellent stability on the road and racetrack alike.
