When the Mercedes Benz sports utility vehicle (SUV) christened the M Class came out, it was to great wonder in the car market and it was not long before the wonderful SUV found itself in the far reaches of the world through the automotive export machinery.
The vehicle was expertly crafted as has become the norm for the products coming out of factories and the assembly plants of the giant German automobile manufacturer. The car information provided by the manufacturer proved true and it was an ideal SUV.
To be human is to err. Just like anything made by human hands, is always a mistake, however small. A fault was discovered in the M Class and a notice sent to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration informing of a voluntary recall.
Over 8,675 units of the ML350, ML550 and the ML63 AMG models were recalled so that the problem could be fixed. The problem that was discovered was that an all-weather floor mat supplied by the Mercedes dealers could interfere with the gas pedal in a way that would leave it in the depressed position even when the driver has lifted their foot off it.
Given that all Mercedes vehicles have a standard brake override function when the brake pedal is depressed, this can be used to halt the vehicle if tends to roll away. The company however advises that owners of affected vehicles remove their floor mats and take their cars to receive replacement mats.
