The Ministry of Energy in the UAE has announced new prices for the month of February. After the fluctuating rise and fall in the fuel prices in 2016, the second month of 2017 brings higher fuel prices for the UAE motorists. The new hike in prices announced on Sunday was the highest in the past 12 months.
Since September, 2016, the fuel prices are on a steady rise. The UAE motorists have to constantly stretch their pockets to keep up with the rising fuel prices. After the decrease in the fuel prices in December, 2016, the fuel prices have increased for the first two months of 2017.

The New Fuel Prices for February
Ministry of Energy in the UAE has announced that the prices for petrol will be increased by nine fils and the prices of diesel will be increased by six fils. The new fuel prices for the month of February in the UAE are:
- The new price for Super 98 will be AED 2.0 per litre. The price of Super 98 in January was AED 1.91.
- The new price for Special 95 will be AED 1.89 per litre. The price of Special 95 in January was AED 1.80.
- The new price for E Plus will be AED 1.82 per litre. The price of E Plus in January was AED 1.73.
- The price of Diesel will be AED 2.0 per litre. The price of Diesel in January was AED 1.94.

A Comparison with the Previous Year
If we compare the fuel prices in February, 2016 with the fuel prices in February, 2017, we will notice a dramatic change. The per liter price for Super 98 was AED 1.58, Special 95 was AED 1.47, E Plus was AED 1.40 and Diesel was AED 1.37.
The prices for the fuel types have increased by almost 40% to 50% as compared to the prices in February, 2016. The prices for Diesel have increased by more than 50%. This is definitely a big change and the gradual increase has put monetary pressure on the motorists across the UAE.
A lot of this has to do with the global benchmark of Brent crude prices and the agreement signed between Opec and non-Opec countries. After the meeting on 30th November, 2016, it was decided that the fuel production will reduce by 1.2 million barrels per day in order to stabilize oil prices.
The new fuel prices announced by Ministry of Energy will come into effect on 1st February, 2017.
