EDAG, a top engineering company in Germany has introduced a lightweight concept for cars otherwise referred as Light Cocoon that they featured in the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. This technology brings a fresh approach to the auto manufacturing advancement and effectively makes the company an authority in the creative aspects in the car industry.
The concept which borrows heavily on nature relies on the engineers believe that there is no reason to why a car surface should be fully enclosed. This light cocoon concept that is set to impact the estimate car value in future, suggests that hard material should only be used on the necessary areas only. For the other surfaces, the engineers have proposed a weather-resistant fabric that is durable and strong.Structurally the car will not change, only that the metal surfaces will be substituted with light weight material.
The proposed car information and images give an indication that it closely resembles a chameleon or a spider web with illumination from LEDs which would make the car easily visible on the road. On another level, car evaluation will equally be impacted as this light weight material does not require paint works, does not dent and costs extremely lower to repair and maintenance. It also offers designers flexibility in personalizing the look and feel.
For sure, EDAG has caught the attention of the automotive industry and all eyes are on the Geneva Motor Show for stakeholders’ response to this fabric car surfaces revolution.
Just look at this. How cool is that?
