On Monday, December 03, 2013 hundreds of decorated vehicles from all over the Country gathered on Yas Island to celebrate the National Day Union Car Parade with an effort to break the world record for the biggest decorated vehicles gathered in one place.
Emiratis and expats from all over the country worked really very hard to decorate their vehicles with mannequins, sculptures, spray paint, jewels, stickers and national flags to show their love for the UAE and also to influence the juries. People came with various types of vehicles to celebrate National Day car parade including motorbikes, pick-up trucks, military vehicles, antique vehicles, SUV, sport cars & other vehicles with about 300 vehicles in total. Event managers examined each and every car for car assessment whether it complies with the requirement or not to participate in the record attempt, which intended to break the Guinness record for the largest number of decorated cars. The three most creatively decorated cars were 1962 GMC, BMW coupe and a Lexus RX.
The 1962 GMC pick-up was decorate with the pictures of UAE leaders with a miniature versions of Burj Khalifa, Ferrari World, Burj Al Arab, and Capital Gate on its back.
The Nimr or Tiger was another exotic car which was developed by UAE Military. There was a Mercedes G Wagon which was converted to a pick-up especially for this event. And it took almost 4 months to convert this Mercedes G Wagon to a pick-up with its all part remaining Mercedes.
Cris Bautista is a 43 years old Filipino who has been living in the UAE for 23 years. He brought his family in his pick-up, which was decorated with three large UAE flags with pictures of the country’s Leaders. He said – “The leaders are helping the Philippines so much, so I wanted to share some of my love of the country in this parade,”
Traffic around the Yas Island become too heavy for the police to control that they had to close most of the roads for incoming traffic about an hour before the beginning of the parade.
This extraordinary event was participated by Egyptians, Americans, Pakistanis, Filipinos and many more nationalities. This says a lot about the involvement of the entire community of the UAE in National Day events and it deserves to be formally documented by Guinness World Records, although any statement about whether it has made the record books has not yet been made.
