New silver taxis will begin operating at the beginning of next month in Al Gharbia, Abu Dhabi’s western region.
Fares will be the same as in Abu Dhabi city and Al Ain, the taxi regulator TransAD said. The minimum fare will be Dh3.50 during the day, 6am to 10pm, and Dh4 at night. The booking fee will be Dh3 during the day and Dh4 at night.
“The new service addresses the needs of people in the Western Region as well as visitors and tourists, especially in light of anticipated growth of the region and the mega developments being undertaken there,” said Mohamed Al Hosani of the Centre for Regulation of Transport by Hire Cars.
‘They are all aimed at raising the Western Region’s profile in social, economic and tourism aspects. We will evaluate the results of the service during the first phase, following which we will decide the number of taxis needed to ensure sufficient services.”
The center said similar companies to those in the two cities will be operating in the Western Region and drivers will be given professional training.
Customers can book taxis from the call center on 600 53 53 53. Operators will use GPS technology to find a taxi nearest to a caller’s address.
