Record-Breaking Performance and Speed of Nissan GT-R
Kawabata Masato, the Japanese drift champion broke the former world record of 217km/h that was set by Jakub Przygonski of Poland in September 2013. Kawabata Masato smashed the previous world record for the fastest drift with a speed of 304.96 km/h at an angle of 30 degrees with a specially-modified MY16 Nissan-GTR.
Nissan’s GTR MY16 for the Drift Record
Nismo experts modified the record-breaking Nissan GT-R MY16 to maximize its horsepower and stability. The horsepower of the car was tuned to 1,380hp and modified in a way that maximum force went to the back wheels. The Nissan-GTR was set up by Greedy Trust and was tested widely at Japan’s Fuji Racetrack by Kawabata Masato prior to the event.
Venue of Record Breaking Event
Fujairah International Airport UAE’s runway was chosen as the perfect fit for this world record attempt as stated by Samir Cherfan, Managing Director of Nissan Middle East. This venue was decided purposefully as it had 3km long runway which was sufficient for this ground-breaking event.
