In an effort to promote awareness about safe driving practices and observe Ramadan in its best spirit with charitable activities, the Dubai Traffic Police has launched the new Ramadan Aman Campaign in the emirate. The new campaign aims at providing information about reasons behind dangerous road accidents in Ramadan and has been focused at urging motorists to abide by traffic rules to avoid dangerous road accidents. The new campaign will also involve charitable activities such as distributing Iftar meals amongst fasting motorists with the help of volunteers. Dubai Traffic Police has also revealed a report of road accidents recorded during last three years in the month of Ramadan under its Ramadan Aman Campaign.
Details of the Ramadan Aman Campaign
The Ramadan Aman Campaign has been launched by Dubai’s Traffic Police Department in collaboration with General Department of Community Happiness. Dubai Traffic Police has revealed some important traffic stats from last three years under its new Ramadan Aman Campaign that clearly highlight the major reasons behind dangerous road accidents recorded during Ramadan. The purpose of providing information about dangerous road accidents in Ramadan is to promote awareness about safe driving practices that can be followed to avoid dangerous road situations during Ramadan. Several charitable activities and an awareness exhibition have also been planned for motorists in Dubai under the Ramadan Aman Campaign.

Traffic Stats Revealed by Dubai Traffic Police
According to the traffic stats revealed by Dubai Traffic Police, most of the road accidents during Ramadan of 2017 were recorded near Iftar time. It represents the reckless driving behavior of motorists who were warned by the authorities multiple times last year to avoid reckless driving, particularly near Iftar time.
Here are the detailed findings of the traffic report recently released by Dubai Traffic Police.
- Road deaths decreased during Ramadan of 2017 as compared to Ramadan of 2016. As many as 6 deaths were recorded during Ramadan of 2017 compared to 20 road deaths recorded during Ramadan of 2016.
- Between 2015 and 2017, 5% of the road deaths were caused by collisions between vehicles during the month of Ramadan. 19.4% of the road deaths were caused by vehicles hitting fences and road barriers.
- During the years from 2015 to 2017, Pakistani nationals caused the maximum number of road deaths (11) in Ramadan comprising of 38.9% of the total death toll. Indians caused 9 road deaths while Emiratis caused 7 road deaths in the same period.
- Most of the causalities also included Pakistani nationals as 13 Pakistanis died in road accidents during last three years in the month of Ramadan.
- Emirates Road was reported to be the most dangerous road as it recorded 8 casualties during Ramadan in last three years.
- According to Dubai Traffic Police, the most dangerous time of the day during last year’s Ramadan was recorded to be between 2:00 PM and 10:00 PM. Most of the road deaths were recorded within this duration.
- Distracted driving, particularly the use of mobile phone while driving was quoted as one of the major reasons behind road deaths in Dubai during Ramadan.
Motorists have been advised by the authorities to adopt a defensive driving approach while driving in Ramadan and remain considerate of others, especially near Iftar time. Reckless driving that includes over-speeding, sudden swerving and jumping the red signal amongst other dangerous driving mistakes should be avoided at all times as it is a major reason behind dangerous road accidents recorded in Dubai all year round.

Official Statement about Ramadan Aman Campaign
The Ramadan Aman campaign has been launched in the UAE for the well-being of motorists, especially the fasting motorists. Major-General Mohammed Saif Al Zafeen, Assistant Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police for Operations and Head of the Federal Traffic Council, said that the Dubai Traffic Police has completed its preparations to make this Ramadan safe for commuters and maximum staff will be deployed at major junctions and intersections to monitor traffic and distribute Iftar meals amongst motorists.
As part of the Ramadan Aman Campaign, an exhibition will also be arranged at Nad Al Sheba with an aim to promote awareness about safe driving in Ramadan. Major-General Mohammed Saif Al Zafeen added that Dubai Traffic Police is making its best efforts to urge motorists to avoid dangerous driving mistakes during the holy month of Ramadan.
