The Compulsion for the car owners to get their cars maintained and serviced only from the automobile dealer workshops for the continuation of their cars warranties has been removed. On Tuesday, The Ministry of Economy announced in Abu Dhabi that the motorists can get their cars repaired and serviced from their desired workshops.
The Ministry of Economy is carrying out the negotiations with the Ministry of Interior and ESMA to categorize almost 40,000 Workshops for the maintenance of automobiles.
The Ministry stated that the pre-defined condition of car maintenance from the car dealer’s workshops for the continual warranty of the cars between the car owner and the dealer has been eliminated. This a step taken to make this process more organized and less troublesome for the car owners so that they can get their cars maintained from all other automobile workshops.
The newly proposed system would make things comfortable for the motorists as it will lessen their expenses for car maintenance and service. The Ministry of Economy is in collaborative talks with the Interior Ministry and Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology on the process of rating the 40,000 Car Maintenance and Service Workshops. The ratings will be in ascending order from 1 to 4 stars on the basis of their quality and performance indicators.
The change in the car warranty conditions between the car dealers and car manufactures to not cancel the warranty of the cars for getting them maintained at other workshops has been approved by the Higher Committee for Consumer Protection.
The Committee states:
“Every month 20% of the complaints received by the Consumer Protection Committee are about the motor vehicles.”
Call for Revising Warranty Condition Policy
Dr. Hashim Nuaumi who is the Director of the Consumer Protection Department of Ministry of Economy was of the view that the change in the guaranteed cars maintenance conditions will lift the added pressure of cost on the consumers and they will be able to get their cars maintained in economical prices at other workshops than those of the car agencies.
He told the Press on Tuesday that this particular movement to change the conditions pertaining to the cars maintenance was brought into place after receiving humongous amount of complaints regarding the cancellation of the warranty of the cars for getting them maintained on other workshops than the dealer/agency’s workshops. The cancellation of few of the warranty contracts was made just because of an oil change from some other workshops and that was unacceptable.
Understanding the New User-friendly Rating System for Car owners
With the Collaboration of the Ministry of Economy and ESMA, a system was set for the rating of the 40,000 workshops other than the car agencies workshops. These ratings were built on the quality of functions performed at a specific workshop and its overall performance for maintenance of cars.
Ministry received a number of complaints regarding the poor performance of certain workshops from the consumers. The workshops were involved in making mistakes regarding the service of cars and usage of low-quality spare parts in place of the genuine parts.
The Director of the Consumer Protection Department said that an extensive research and study was brought into practice to analyze all the automobile workshops qualitatively. The study was conducted to first help in rating the workshops and secondly to improve the system overall by communicating with the local departments of economy and municipalities.
The Consumer Protection Higher Committee at present is studying the project in order to sanction it. It will also consider the appropriate time for the implementation of all the changes. It will be made sure before the implementation of the changes that the quality of the workshops all around is sufficient to provide consumers the best value of their money.
The rating of the workshops was made on the basis of various qualitative criterions including the cars electricity, painting services, mechanics strength and metal and discs wheel shifting. The Study was made with effective measures and experienced workers.
