When Japanese car maker released the Murano to the car market, those with a plan for car acquisition rubbed their hands in eager anticipation for the car to reach their local dealers so that they could take it out for a spin and probably end up pulling up in their driveways.
As much as the manufacturer touted the model as a game changer, there have been emerging reports that show that there are some safety concerns in the Nissan Murano. In early 2008, a recall was issued to fix a problem in the software problem that handles the air bag control unit. The glitch causes the passenger air bag to fail to inflate in the event of a crash resulting in increased risk of injury to the passenger in the car.
The car rating of the model further circled the drain when it was recalled due to Occupant Classification Systems (OCS) control unit in the passenger seat whose varistor was installed yet it was out of specification. The consequences of this are such that there would be an interruption of the signal from the OCS to the air bag control unit and as such there would be suppression of deployment of the air bag equaling to insufficient protection of the occupant during a crash.
