Seat Belt Fault in the Mercedes-Benz GL Class

The GL class of sports utility vehicles took the world of SUVs in the car market by storm with its rugged looks coupled with sleek lines and wonderful performance. This addition to the automaker’s fleet has driven up its car rating and has seen the success in the automotive export industry.

The car maker has issued a recall that encompasses 272 vehicles in the United States alone. The seat belt anchors look to be the affected part and thus cast a shadow over the safety provided by the SUV. The affected models in the GL class include 2013 GL350 BlueTEC, GL450 4MATIC, GL550 4MATIC and GL63 AMG models built from May 15, 2012 through October 4, 2012.

The fault is the fact that the second row seat belts may not have been properly tensioned and these are thus loose. The seat belts may continue to loosen over time if they are not properly torqued. In the event of a crash, this may increase the chance of injury to the passengers due to the fact that they are not strapped in and restrained sufficiently enough.

The car company has notified owners to take in their cars so that the issue can be fixed free of charge to them.
