Sheikh Khalid Al Qassimi vision for the future of racing

Sheikh Khalid Al Qassemi had a very warm welcome for anyone that came to the Abu Dhabi Racing’s exquisite celebrations held at the Yas Marina Circuit.

It was quite inspiring, as the chairman of Abu Dhabi Motorsport and the World Rally Championship driver discussed about the future of the franchise, in the context of the United Arab Emirates. They explained why the Daman Speed Academy was founded in the first place, and that the whole point was to help out younger Emirati’s to get into the world of motorsport. It is very important to start nurturing their talents very early, both on the race track and in other aspects.

Rashid Al Dhaheri was fortunate enough to be invited, and if you don’t know who he is you haven’t been paying attention to the national Karting series held at the famous Al Ain Raceway. It is also extremely impressive given that Rashid was only 5 years old at the time of writing this. It’s very easy to understand what Sheikh Khalid is trying to do. The best way to get someone passionate about a certain activity, and in this case a motorsport is to introduce them to said concept when they are young and impressionable. It also has the added benefit of making them real good at that activity because by the time they reach 18, they would have done it for all of their lives and are really really skillful at it.

And also, motor-sport practically sells itself to younger demographics. What can leave you more awestruck than dashing on a motorway at very high speed. No wonder vehicle sale numbers are so high lately, despite the economic recession.

That being said a quest has begun for the Abu Dhabi Motorsport Management, Abu Dhabi Racing, the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority and the Yas Marina Circuit to find the next big start in the United Arab Emirates racing circuit. And with support like that, there is no doubt in anyone’s mind that it is only a matter of time until someone manages to find the next Khaled Al Qubaisi, winner of the Dubai 24-Hour competition or the next Sheikh Khalid.

Putting his money where his mouth is, Sheikh Khalid puts his suit on and started to demonstrate why he is such a prolific person on the world wide stage. He then started offering guests a tour ride of the Yas Marina’s circuit, to further drive home the point. I know the phrase ‘’ poetry in motions’’ has because some sort of cliché lately, but seeing his Citroen DS3

, turbocharged and putting out 300bhp one can’t help but  think in clichés.

The car’s exquisite Michelin tires were put to the test as he started to dash about, followed by a magnificent curtain of tire smoke and burned rubber. As previously mentioned this activity  practically sells itself, and with such passion promoters the future is bright for the UAE’s motorsport circuit.
