The volume of cars spare parts trade in UAE reached in 2012 to $ 10.1 billion dollars while it is expected that the volume will reach in the current year to $ 13 billion dollars and within 5 years, it will become 15 billion dollars according to Gary Carscadn, General manager of Global company for cars spare parts.
During a panel discussion about fighting the low quality and imitation cars spare parts, Gary Carscadn mentioned that 25 % of the volume of this trade is used within the UAE and the rest of the volume is re- exported by the following percentages: 30% to Iran, 9 % to Saudi Arabia, 4 % to Iraq, 3 % to Kuwait, 2 % to Pakistan and 52 % to other countries.
The point of origin for the imported parts is distributed as follow: 28% from Japan, 13 % from China, 12 % from South Korea, 11 % from Germany, 8 % from United States and 28 % from other countries. The distribution of the used cars parts is by type as follow: 24% for the moving parts, 13 % for the accessories, 5 % for tires, 5 % for buses tires, 5 % for car body, 5 % for engine parts and 46 % for the rest of the parts.
The meeting which was held at the Resort & Spa “Habtoor Grand” addressed the raise of awareness about the growing size of the cars parts market that have low quality and low price in the UAE. In the meeting, there was a comparison between the original and fake cars parts through a presentation of some products of each of them such as brakes, shock absorber parts, the joints of the control valve, filters and coolers. Mr. Carscadn showed some techniques of deception which are used in these days such as the use of Japanese writing on the pieces covers in order to give impression that they are original or putting commercial billboards with cars companies slogans on the shops, and he mentioned many other methods of cheating such as re-packaging of the original parts in the UAE. He stated that 20 % of cars parts in Dubai are fabricated and because there is a prices war in the market, the demand for the fake cars parts and poor quality parts is increasing and those fake pieces make many troubles for the end user by causing huge damages to the cars plus the safety of customers and their cars.
