The high implementation of speed radars was part of its efforts to curtail all causes that lead to traffic accidents, resulting deaths or injuries.

Speed radars have booked almost 2,500 offenders on Abu Dhabi roads in just two months as it ramps up its traffic control strategy — with the police reassuring residents the increase in fines is not for financial gain.

The Abu Dhabi Traffic Police issued a total of 2,494 traffic violations after the infringements on the internal and external roads in Abu Dhabi during August and September. The police said in a press release that the high implementation of speed radars was part of its efforts to curtail all causes that lead to traffic accidents, resulting deaths or injuries.

The Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate Traffic Control Branch Manager Captain Abdullah Al Qubaisi said the main violations detected included failure to stay within the lanes or observe traffic rules, taxis stopping in undesignated pickup areas, and illegal overtaking moves.

“The Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police seeks no financial gains by issuing traffic violations. This measure aims solely to ensure people’s safety and to maintain public property,” he said.
