According to the Sharjah Police Stats for the first five months of 2016, the number of traffic violations mounted up to 8,251. A total of 6,824 violations of jumping the red light were recorded in the first five months and 1,081 drivers were fined for speeding up to 60 Km/h over the limit. Some other traffic violations were also recorded such as the reckless driving and racing. The traffic problem is getting worse not only in Sharjah but all over the UAE.

Penalties for Comitting the Red Light Traffic Violations
There are clear penalties for the offenders jumping the red light and all such violations have been dealt with severely by the Sharjah Police in recent times. From the issuance of a fine of Dh800 to getting your car impounded for 15 days; are the penalties to be faced by the motorists for jumping the red signal. According to Lieutenant Saud Al Shaiba who is the director of traffic awareness and media section of Sharjah Police, motorists have been warned of the dangers of over-speeding and jumping the red signal but they repeat the same mistake again and again and play with the lives of people. He said that the patrolling of Police was increased to catch the offenders and to hold them accountable for their reckless driving.
Awareness Campaigns to Educate the Youth
Jumping the red light and over-speeding are two of the deadliest traffic violations and caused the most number of casualties among all other violations. The traffic authorities are putting up their best efforts to educate especially the youth about the hazards associated with reckless driving. Over speeding, red light jumping, lane swerving and careless driving are most common in the young people and they also cause the most accidents on the road. A number of traffic awareness campaigns have therefore been launched to keep the motorists aware of the road safety regulations. Serious fines and penalties can be easily avoided and the peace on the roads can be maintained by staying away from traffic violations.
