Emirates desert Rally Championship witnessed an unexpected surprise where there was participation from citizen’s women within the race along with the drivers and the tournament is held in five categories which are cars, SUVs, motorcycles, quads and baggy.
The estimated number of participants was about 50 drivers in various categories. This is the first championship of the sports cars and motorcycles Union season and the Emirates Championship was held of four rounds where Dubai was chosen for the first round and the rest of the tour will move forward to the rest of the United Arab Emirates. The sport cars and motorcycles union in cooperation with the Emirates Automobile and Tourism club completed all preparations for the start of the new season which is witnessing a quantum leap by organizing a large number of deserts racing after a long break.
The race track was chosen carefully in the area of “Alevra 2″ which is one of the new areas that has been designated by the Dubai Municipality. It is located after the “Om Nahd” air base from “Lehbab Bridge” in the direction of “Jebel Ali” where the race track has been planned and identified it’s area in the range of 20 square kilometers. The organizing committee presented to welcome the racers where the race started at 8AM and racers recording and technical inspection began in “Alatodrom” ring “Garage 9”. This is the first time for integrating the five categories of these engines in one race and the round Championship was an indication to organize the races scheduled in the agenda of the season that Federation president announced about it in a press conference where there will be more than 120 races in various categories and engines.
Atiq Hassan Mubarak, the General Secretary of the Union revealed for a first round surprise of the Emirates desert Championship with the participation of citizens women in the race with others from several countries, adding that the tournament is open to all nationalities from both sexes with one regulation and uniform conditions as is the case worldwide. He said: “Organizing Committee started to receive applications for the participants and the race is open to both sexes for citizens and other nationalities”.
Mubarak said that the Union began to implement its program for the new season at the direction of the President of the Union and Emirates Automobile and Tourism Club contributed to cooperate in the provision of assistive devices and logistic materials and it allowed for the union the same potentials available in the club. He explained that the President reduced the fees of participation from 350 dirham to 150 for cars and 100 for bicycles to attract the largest number of racing amateurs.
