Considering road safety as a serious matter, UAE traffic police and other authorities have decided to start intense road surveillance to detect drivers using mobile phones during driving. Motorists have been found taking selfies and using smartphones for other purposes while driving which in turn caused serious accidents last year. The offenders will not be able to escape the penalties now.
Mobile Phone Distractions Lead to Fatal Road Accidents
The use of mobile phones during driving certainly takes your attention away from the road and it leads to dangerous result at times. The chances of severe accidents increase with distracted driving. You may skip your lane or swerve off and violate other road safety rules using mobile phone. Many recent stats have shown that mobile phone usage during driving led to many serious accidents in recent past.
Fines and Penalty
In the previous year, 49, 643 cases of mobile phone usage while driving were reported in Dubai. This large figure has pushed the Ministry and traffic authorities in UAE to enforce fines and black points as the penalty on the motorists. According to Col Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, the penalty of Dh200 Fine with 4 black points was not strict enough to completely discourage the drivers from using the mobile phones. The previous recommendation made by the Federal Traffic Council was heavier than this. It recommended a penalty of Dh1000 with 12 black points. This lighter penalty will serve as the warning for the motorists and the council in the review of the proceedings will decide to increase or maintain the penalties in future.
