Out of all those, some are dedicated towards doing trade in the new car models and some others are the facilitators of used cars. Now, switching on to one other powerful nation, i.e. the UK, there is news that has been gaining a lot of attention these days. Well, the headline of the news states that the UK Government is looking forward to investing in the development of Driver-less cars.
Just a few weeks back, George Osborne, the chancellor said that the United Kingdom Government would invest a minimum of £10m to support driver-less vehicle technology. Alongside, it is being said that the government is planning to do so because this particular field is one of the most competitive research areas in the country. Hence, the government does not wants to leave any loophole in giving the best possible support to the full-fledged development of cars that will be run without the help of any driver.
Moreover, the country will also award a prize fund of £10m to a city or town in order to develop a test site for such vehicles. As per the comments of David Raistrick, UK automotive leader at Deloitte, a consultancy, “Driver-less cars will become a reality and it is just a question of when, not if. This is an obvious investment for the UK to make to remain at the top of the [car] industry.”
At present, two car makers namely Nissan and Daimler are in the race of developing such cars that will be able to run without human intervention. As per the perception of both these car makers, driver-less cars will enhance safety and efficiency, thereby reducing the congestion level on the road. Speaking specifically about Nissan, it is being said that the car manufacturing brand has pledged to bring forth one such car by 2020. On this particular commitment, some industry analysts are saying that developing such a car would consume more time than the one committed by Nissan. Adding to the speculation, analysts are coming with an issue that the legislative as well as legal issues (in case of car accident) will get impossible to solve if a car will be driven without any human.
Explaining to this, a Treasury spokesperson said that, “The intention here is to clear the regulatory path so that there aren’t any bureaucratic reasons to why the UK couldn’t become one of the world centers for testing and development of driver-less cars.”
Well, in order to see that how far this news come true and how long does UK takes to develop one such car, we will have to wait for some more years.
