The track of the International Sport Knights Resort in Abu Dhabi during the period from 29 to January 31 hosts the first race of its kind for hybrid – electric cars in the Gulf region with the participation of more than 120 students divided into 11 teams from the Petroleum Institute in Abu Dhabi, UAE university, university of Abu Dhabi, Science and Technology Source institute, Khalifa university, College of Technology in Nizwa at Oman, Faculty of technical studies in Kuwait and Qatar University. Some officials mentioned that this race contributes to the preparation of a new generation of engineers interested in energy efficiency who constitute a valuable addition to any company that recruited them where the students that participate in this kind of competitions are finding jobs with distinct companies that their top priority is energy efficiency. He pointed out that the “NASA” agency is one of those who have provided job opportunities for the participants in previous competitions of this kind.
Rokaya Nomani, last year student in the mechanical engineering at the Petroleum Institute in Abu Dhabi and a participant within a team of students from the institute confirmed that establishing such a race in Abu Dhabi enhances the image of United Arab Emirates as one of the developed countries in the world and highlights the efforts to obtain alternative sources of energy. Also, she said: “we want to prove that the daughter of the UAE is able to achieve excellence in all areas and to stand by the man to achieve the renaissance and prosperity of the country and she mentioned that the participation in the race is an opportunity to apply what has been learned from theory information during the study period as well as the fun to work in a team and take advantage of consolidation the spirit of cooperation and teamwork”.
The participating teams composed of drivers and technicians where all of them are competing in a race of the lightweight hybrid cars which accommodate one driver and designed according to the best standards of safety. All the teams were provided with all the necessary equipments for the design and development of racing cars to be faster and more efficient in using the energy where each team needs to think about the best ways and techniques in order to design an engine to increase the range of the distance traveled by the vehicle.
