Getting into the world of buying used cars is not an easy task. Whenever you decide to buy a used car you need to have a full knowledge of the market and the vehicle you’re buying because you can be a victim of a lost bargain.
It’s been done lately that many used car markets around the GCC tend to buy junk cars from the USA and repair them cheaply, then sell them to ignorant customers, leaving the customer with a heavy repair charges and a lot of dangerous accidents due to the inefficiency of the system of the car.
Lately, many used car markets are getting damaged cars from the USA, especially the cars that are damaged by Hurricane Sandy. They import these cars, take them to workshops to make them look like new ones, and then send them to auto markets in the UAE. When you look at the car, you find it clean and shining, but try to check the inside of it, there’s enough damage to let you leave the car without a second thought.
1- Before buying any car, check the history of it. Many of he cars still have the VIN number on their dashboard. This number helps you a lot to get the information that you need. Another way to check the history of a car is by finding some of the original registration stickers on the car.
2- Check your car , especially the car that are American specifications, for damages resulted from floods. Check the frame for any damages. Be very subspecies for any electronic repair done recently for the car.
3- Look for certified pre-owned cars. You might pay a little more but at least you are buying trustworthy car which is a lot more better than shadowy dealers whom offer no warranty to the car.
Recently, there’s been more reliance on “certified” model in the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Most of the dealers are employing pre- owned program after they proved their efficiency.
4- Be careful of the unbelievable! Be suspicious to the “perfectly low prices” because most of the time they try to hide some serious flaws.
5- Don’t forget about the resale. Most American specifications are sold cheaply in the UAE which means they will get lower when they will be resold.
Eventually , don’t look for the shiny and cheap, because the money that you save when buying the cheap might be doubled trying to repair it.
